Aunty Marjorie Dixon
My name is Marjorie Dixon. Also known as Putto. I am 85 years old and was born 7th February 1936 in Crown Street Hospital. I have lived in La Perouse all my life. I have a Daughter by the name of Louise, I adopted a little girl when she was just 6 weeks old and her name was Dolly and I raised my brother’s son, Robert. I have also helped raise all my grandchildren. All together I have 9 granddaughters, 1 grandson, 10 great grandsons and 1 great granddaughter.
I would like to share a story of growing up in La Perouse: I grew up in La Perouse loving my sport. I was 12 years old when I first played on Yarra Bay Oval playing cricko. There were so many good players before me. It took 8 years to achieve my goal; that was to represent my state NSW in QLD. In the later years we formed a team called vigoro, which our parents played before us in the 1930’s-1932. I represented NSW with two other women, Valma Moulchi & Francis (Poppy) Lyons. We were the only women to represent both cricko and vigoro.
