Aunty Marion Russell
My name is Marion Melinda Russell and I am a gweagal woman, I was born in Crown Street Hospital and has lived in the La Perouse Aboriginal community all my life. Growing up in Kamay Bay on Dharawal country is filled with many wonderful memories ones that I remember dearly are swimming at the old wharf and catching the ferry to Kurnell, my uncle Gussy was the driver and the first Aboriginal ferry driver. We would have lots of picnics at Kurnell and I remember going into the old museum and would look at a portrait of Biddy Giles (Biyarrung) who is my great, great, great grandmother.
My father is Reginald Russell he was born in Taree and my mothers name is Patricia Russell (Sherrett) she was born in La Perouse. My maternal grandfathers name is George William Sherrett born in Burragorang Valley and my maternal grandmother is Lila Melinda Sherrett (Anderson) and she was born in La Perouse. My paternal grandfathers name is William Russell born in Taree and my paternal grandmother is Stella Russell (Clarke) born in Foster.
